Mandarin's Story...

Mandarin is one of the over 400 dogs at So Dogs shelter who would have otherwise suffered a slow and painful death on the streets had they not been rescued. Members of Soi Dogs Sponsorship Club are the ones who save these dogs. For less than 80 cents a day you can make a huge difference by becoming a sponsor of Mandarin or one of the other dogs in Soi Dogs care. Please join today at: https://www.soidog.org/en/sponsor-a-dog-or-cat/

Hi, my name is Mandarin. I was born in Bangkok at a breeders and brought to Phuket to be sold. A family with 2 young children bought me and took me home. The children were lots of fun and I was a very happy dog.

But one day for no reason they decided to get rid of me and took me to Baan Chalong School and left me there alone. I guess they were sick of me and thought that someone else at the school might want me. No one did.

Unlike other dogs who were born on the streets I had no idea how to survive and was always hungry and thirsty. Then things got worse, my eye became horribly infected, maggots started living in my hurt eye and I thought I would just slowly die for sure.

Then a man from Soi Dog found me and took me to the Soi Dog shelter on Christmas Eve. That night and the next day the Soi Dog vets treated me and my eye has now gotten better. If the man had not rescued me I would have surely died. I still dont know why my owners left me there. Did they not know I could not survive on the street? I guess maybe they just didnt care.

In just a few short weeks I have gotten so much better! I can see out of my eye now and Reggie Soi Dogs shelter manager tells me I will soon be as good as new on the outside. I am still sad that my family abandoned me on the street and still dont understand why.

Now that my eye is getting better and being cared for I am much happier. The people at Soi Dog love me and Gill has told me that I can stay at Soi Dog for as long as I want and they will even try to find me a new home!
