Did you know that Malayan sun bears and Asiatic black bears are ranked 2nd and 3rd on the most endangered bears list, according to recent assessments by the IUCN Bear and Polar Bear specialist groups?

Although they trail only pandas on the list, the general awareness of their situation pales in comparison. The main threats they face are habitat loss and commercial hunting for their parts, as well as capture for bear farms where they are drained of their bile for use in traditional medicines.

You can help by not purchasing bear products (e.g. bear bile medicines, gall bladders) and spreading the message amongst your friends and relatives. You can also report any illegal trading of bear products in Singapore (all trade in bear products is prohibited here) to the ACRES Wildlife Crime Hotline at 9783 7782.
