At around 11am this morning, while I was busy setting up our stall at the Petfinder Carnival, I received a most welcomed sms from Catherina.
Jackie is free!!!
Here's the story...
I managed to catch up with owner who came this morning. I was just driving passing by the shop just to check whether is there anyone taken off the notice i have put on yesterday. The notice were gone, the brick i left in between the door was also gone. Then only i realised that the door to the upstair unit was widely open. I quickly stop my car at the road side and ran into and ask for help. Thank God. Now the kitten (Jackie is her name) is now safe with her mother. The owner refused to give me their contact but they are reali nice ppl. They will have renovation work going on at the premise soon, thus they will be here more often.
And an email to me:
Thanks Dr. Chan,
Your prayer reali helps.. I reali meet the person and they reali open the door for me. Its like a dream.
When i saw the door to the upstairs unit was wide open, i was so happy. I stop my car n i run as i can and ask for help. I was so happy i actually cried in front of them.
The lady owner comforted me n then we went downstairs and search for Jackie. She reali went hiding at 1st as I can find her at all.
After tht when she meowed then only i know she was hiding underneath a pile of metal rods.. She was so traumatised and scared. Poor Jackie.
Thanks Dr. Thanks everyone.
Regards Cath
I received some updates from Catherina this afternoon to say Jackie is now reunited with her mother and sister, Qing Qing. She was initially nervous and scared (I would be too, if I was a baby and had been trapped in an empty shoplot all by myself for three days!).
I'm just so, so glad Jackie and Catherina's ordeal is over and we are all so happy! I too had sleepless nights trying to figure out how to help Jackie.
I'd like to thank everyone who had written in comments to help Catherina. Many thanks to Ed, Wani and Ellen, too.
Mr Ramachandran, YB Hannah Yeoh's husband, wrote me this email this morning:
Dear Dr Chan,
Has the local council there been contacted? I believe the local council can enter the premise for an emergency case like this. Bomba should have liaised with the local council. If a child is trapped inside, I'm sure they would have done the necessary!
Regards, Ram We thank Mr Ram for his very sincere concern and help. Shall we all pray that the day will come when our rescue workers and leaders will not discriminate against animals? Perhaps, one day, they shall see how interconnected we are in this world, how we should help the helpless and the voiceless since we have the means to do so, and how "what goes around, comes around". Unconditional loving kindness is the greatest wisdom in the world. Until then, it's education that we need, isn't it? Oh, I almost forgot...here's the photo that really made my day today.... Here's..............Jackie!! (mms from Catherina this morning)
Be a good girl now, Jackie.
Don't go into openings and make your mama worried sick again, you hear?
Catherina, get a goodnight's rest, you certainly deserve it!
And me? I got to check tshirt stock now... We had a great day at Sunway Pyramid.
