Last month, specifically 17 Nov, I saw a dog lying in a puddle of muddy water. He was near my regular vet, so I requested the vet to take a look at the dog.
The vet found that the dog could be hit by a car, as his hips were dislocated and he had a fracture in his spine. The dog needed to cage rest for several months for his bones to heal.He needs to be cared for daily and go through minimal movement so as not to aggravate his injury.
According to the vet, for dogs with injury to the spine like Lucky (a simple name I’ve given the dog) usually result in lower body paralysis. However, Lucky was able to stand on all four legs, though unstable and weak. A friend of mine has graciously fostered Lucky (rescued dog) for a month, but due to increased and irregular work commitment next month, he no longer can watch over Lucky.
In the past 6 weeks, Lucky has recovered significantly. Due to nerve injury in the spine, Lucky initially could not wag his tail, was unable to sit up, and was unable to straighten his hind paws. He was walking on his knuckles, leading to bruises and cuts. Based on Lucky’s rate of recovery, the vet said that he is likely to walk normally again after 6-12 months. He can now wag his tail and sit up straight. His left hind paw has straightened; leaving only his right hind paw curled and bruised.
I am urgently looking for a new owner to house Lucky. He cannot be let to roam free as his injury prevents him from searching for food or walking far distance.
Lucky is a male dog, about 2 years old. He was 16 kg when I first rescued him, but he was severely underweight. He has been gaining weight, and based on his bone structure, he may grow up to 20-25 kg (medium to large-size dog).Lucky is really adorable, but I can’t keep him as I already have 4 dogs. I am at risk of neighbors complaining.
I really appreciate it if you can help Lucky find a good home.
Many thanks,
Selena Ong
