ACRES is shocked by how ignorant Genting and Resorts World Sentosa are… They have clearly ignored the facts we have presented to them and continue to ignore the concerns we have raised.
“The park has attracted controversy for its import of dolphins.
Lim Kok Thay, chairman of Genting Group and Resorts World Sentosa, said: ‘These are not an endangered species, so it is really no different from, if you want to put it, the panda bears.’”
1. Whether an animal suffers in captivity and whether it is ethical to forcefully remove an animal from the wild is not dependent on whether the animal is endangered.
2. The wild-caught dolphins were removed from Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. Scientific studies have now shown that only a maximum of 162 dolphins remain in that area. The studies have also proven that the trade in these dolphins was unsustainable. Resorts World Sentosa has pushed this species one step closer towards extinction there and it is absurd to now say they are not endangered.
3. Pandas are endangered!
4. Please also remember that Resorts World Senotsa is facing indirect contempt charges in the Philippine Court for exporting the dolphins.
Please help to share this post and help expose the truth about this injustice. Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) expects to have 17 million visitors for 2013, according to the integrated resort’s forecast.
