Animals need to be FREE.
1. Freedom from hunger and thirst 2. Freedom from discomfort 3. Freedom from pain, injury and disease 4. Freedom to express normal behaviour 5. Freedom from fear and distress
I am particularly attracted to No. 4 (freedom to express NORMAL behaviour). I wish humans would understand that an animal cannot be expected to behave like a human. This would include those humans who make animals perform tricks in circuses or even dog and cat shows, or those who are infuriated when stray animals pee or poo in front of their houses. Animals can't be expected to use the public toilets, I tell them. And I get nasty stares.
I've never even taught Bobby how to "sit"! I never saw the need to. Why would I want to make him sit? He sits when he feels like sitting and that's that!
