Connie Adopts The Ninja Turtles Herself!
Last Sunday, Connie sent an S.O.S. – a friend had given her 3 turtles because the friend could no longer keep them, and Connie had put them into her fish pond, but one turtle started attacking her fish. So Connie thought it better to rehome the turtles as she could not risk a turtle-fish confrontation on a daily basis, which could be life-threatening, presumably to the fish.
Hence, the post:http://myanimalcare.org/2012/11/25/3-ninja-turtles-for-adoption-connie-james/
I sought PAWS’ help and was told they do rehome turtles and in fact, from the photo, it was identified that these are taiwanese green turtles (not tortoises as I had first thought). Then, I found out that the Thean Hou Temple has a beautiful tortoise/turtle pond and they accept the reptiles too.
Connie decided she would prefer for them to go to the Thean Hou Temple, so we had planned on making the trip this morning, armed with a generous supply of kangkung for the tortoise/turtle community there.
However, late last night, Connie changed her mind…
Hi Dr Chan,
We are having second thoughts of letting go the turtles. It’s our fault that the turtles & the fish were fighting the other day. We shouldn’t mix them together. It’s the fish kingdom & we didn’t ask permission from the fish to let the turtles shares their habitat.
Looking back, the turtles are actually very pitiful. After 5 years, the owner had to give them away due to some personal reason. And now because one of the turtle fights with the fish, we decide to give them away. Not right.
This world is meant to be shared by all living beings; we have the space & we are able; thus we decided to build a mini turtle kingdom next to the mini fish kingdom. Hope by this, the turtles can live happily forever in their very own little kingdom.
So tomorrow mission aborted. Tak jadi. Nevertheless, thank you so much for offering to accompany me to send the turtles to the temple.
Regards,
Connie
Kudos to Connie! And may the turtles, Awang, Atan and Aminah, have a long, long life in their new turtle kingdom. Currently, to prevent another fish-turtle confrontation, the turtles have been relocated temporarily to a PCV pool (while awaiting the construction of their new kingdom).
Connie even quipped that had we sent Awang, Atan and Aminah to the Thean Hou Temple, we would have to change their names to Ah Wong, Ah Tan and Ah Manda (a Chinese version of Amanda), but looks like the turtles can keep their names now!
Talking about fighting, I have a story to share from my cat community. It just happened a few hours ago. Read on, please…
