An excerpt:

In response to the launch of Make it Possible, Coleshas announcedthat it will phase out two of the cruelest factory farming practices from their home brand products by January 2013 a year ahead of their committed phase-out date. All of their home brand pork, bacon and ham will come from farms where mother pigs won’t be kept in tiny crates (called sow stalls) during pregnancy; and all of their home brand eggs will be cage free by the start of 2013.

This welcome news means 34,000 mother pigs willno longer be confined to small cratesfor up to 4 months during pregnancy, and that 350,000 hens will befree from battery cages.

Caring consumers are stillencouraging Woolworthsto commit to a full phase out of their own brands of cage eggs. However, the supermarket has announced that its home brand of fresh pork is already 98% ‘sow stall free’ and that this will increase to 100% by mid-2013. As a result tens of thousands more mother pigs will no longer sufferprolonged confinementunable to turn around.

Coles should be applauded for taking such important steps to end some of the worst cruelties of factory farming.

We can really make a difference.

1. Support cruelty-free produce and products.

2. Eat less meat.

One small and simple step towards supporting cruelty-free produce – buy kampung eggs.

And even though petfood contains meat, you can also opt for cruelty-free petfood.
