Mr Yuen contacted me sometime last year, to ask for assistance in the spaying of some dogs. He only managed to bring one dog to our panel vet, after which I had not heard from him again.
Recently, through the help of Agnes and Sumitra, we were in contact again and we sponsored the spaying of a few cats under the care of Mr & Mrs Yuen.

The Yuens have been looking after many (close to a hundred!) animals abandoned at a Chinese temple in Cheras. They live a small flat, but inside the flat, you would find dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals.
Apparently, some people abandon animals at this temple under the impression that they are practising "fong sang" (a Chinese cultural practice of releasing animals). It is rather unfortunate that this practice has not been properly understood, so, to many, it stops at "releasing" and there is no follow-up on whether the animal can fend for itself or not. Nor is there consideration on whether the animal can even survive in its new environment. An example would be people who buy fresh water fish to be released in the sea. The fish would surely die a horrible death.
A case in point would be the Pulau Ketam tragedy where the residents thought they were practising "fong sang" by capturing the dogs and carting them off to neighbouring swampy mangrove islands. Many of the poor dogs died a horrible death, either by starvation or being eaten by wild boar. Flashback: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2009/06/my-day-trip-to-pulau-ketam.html
Back to the Yuens, so Mr & Mrs Yuen have taken upon themselves to feed these animals on a daily basis. Some of these animals are abandoned pets.
We have pledged to help them with the spay-neuter and medical treatment of as many animals as possible. But there are so many, and our funds are limited. If you'd like to help them in any way possible, please write to me at chankahyein@gmail.com and I will get you connected to the Yuens. They only speak Chinese.
Here are some photos taken by Sumitra as she follows Mrs Yuen on one of her typical days at the temple.
The Yuens are definitely another pair of angels to the voiceless and helpless. May they be blessed with good things in life for all the kindnesses that they bestow upon these animals.
Many thanks to Dr Veeranoot who has given a donation to help the Yuens with the vaccination of some of their animals. We will be arranging for this and are now waiting for response from the Yuens.
