Happy updates from Lydia and Mighty Max Lightyear!
We are looking for a loving home for Max. The vets over here agree that he is a special doggie and can do well being what he is. There is no need for any corrective surgery. All Max needs is daily exercise ( to build and maintain muscle) and lots of love! If you are interested in adopting Max, please contact Lydia on 017-6623238.
By the way, Max is going with his friends to Port Dickson this weekend for a holiday.
Hi Kah Yein,
Max is doing well. He especially likes cats!! Maybe their energy is not as boisterous as dogs and cats are more cautious when approaching him and more respectful and maybe he appreciates that as I feel he is aware of his disabilities and tends to hand back thus the quiet demeanor for a puppy.
Occasionally he gets to climb into bed with us ie. humans and cats and he just loves enjoying the pillows.
During meal times the cats are fed first and right next to Max. This is to encourage calm behavior during meal times. As the cats are very sensitive if he is not calm, they will walk away and refuse to eat if he is jumping around next to them. Then the exercise starts all over again and the cats are offered their food and then Max, and everyone gets another chance at learning to eat and be together without interferring with each others’ meal. Max is learning a lot!
He also gets to chew on beef spine bones when he’s in his play pen to keep him occupied. He thoroughly enjoys this experience and can work at it patiently.
When Max first came to stay with us he could not navigate the steps- just 2 steps, at our front entry to the house. He would sit there and cry and call for me for help. I had every confidence in him that he would learn and left him calling and crying and eventually when he was determined not to be left outside, he made all efforts to haul himself over the steps and now he can do it quite proficiently with a little stumbling in between if he’s in too much of a hurry and doesn’t concentrate.
His pee has still been quite concentrated o I’m keeping an eye on things.Yesterday I took Max to the vet as I can feel some shape in his abdomen area. The vet confirmed that it is his enlarged spleen and we did a blood screen for which I’m waiting for the test results and will update you. sorry no photos as I was quite occupied discussing several cases with the vet. Only one of Max when we were paying the bill.
I went over my plan for Max’s rehab with the vet and he agreed with the direction I’m taking. He was also very positive that Max could make a lot more improvement if his rehab continued. Albeit he will not be as “perfect” as other dogs but he will be able to gain more normal function in his hind limbs. My favourite quote comes to mind from Buzz Lightyear- “To infinity and Beyond!!” Onwards Max!
I make a tent for Max at night as I firmly believe that sleep an rest is a proper healer too and giving them a safe closed space helps.
all for now,
cheers,
L
I get to go onto the bed and I sit like a little boy.
This is the life.
Chewing a bone, as all doggies do.
Me in hospital, but me is not sick.
More chewy stuff.
Dinner time with my friends.
Who is faster? Who is faster?
My best pal is Momo Cat.
Learning to climb the steps…
Yes, I did it!!
My little night tent.
Can I win a prize for this?
