An Outing With Lydia And Max
Tweet |
Today, Lydia wanted to take Max down to the vet’s. Lydia is thinking of having a splint made for Max and wanted to discuss this with the vet.
Lydia said she’d pick me up.
Max has put on quite a bit of weight. He’s on raw food.
Top marks for “manja”!
To make him walk, Lydia had to attract him in all kinds of ways.
These are his leg braces.
He still hops like a bunny with his back legs but once in a while, we see him actually using the legs “correctly” a wee bit.
Most of the time, he prefers to lie down or sit, which isn’t good for a small puppy like him, especially one who needs to exercise (to prevent muscle atrophy).
The vet checked and had a long discussion with Lydia. I’ll let Lydia update on the plans for Max.
From what I understand, the right leg is slightly better. It can flex a little now.
We went for lunch as the vet wanted to go home to get a CD for Lydia which has some information on the splint which can be done for max.
He’s so well-behaved! You could take Max anywhere…’coz he isn’t going anywhere. He’s just content to sit and stay.
Lydia and Max stopped at my house. Max also needed to urinate as he was holding it in the car and throughout the visit.
Fix the leg braces first.
Walkie, walkie…let’s visit Raven.
I can see how much effort is needed just to make Max walk (or rather, hop). Most of the time, he’d rather just sit.
Meeting Indy.
Lydia says Max loves the company of her cat, Momo. She has tried getting him to socialise with other puppies. Unfortunately, the other puppies lose interest in Max very quickly because Max doesn’t want to play. He just wants to sit.
Yups, me just wanna sit.
See how Max sits…like a human.
Lydia showed me pictures of purebred dogs who were also born like Max. Apparently, they cope very well. Nothing needs fixing as the dogs can adjust accordingly and hop. Some improve with physio. Some don’t, and in these cases, no fixing is needed. The owner would only need to accept that they have a “special” dog who walks differently. But exercise is important as you wouldn’t want muscle atrophy to set in.
Tabs is scared. This is where she always hides whenever she is scared.
Walkie, walkie…
I just wanna lie down…
Teasing Max with the cat-toy.
As you can see, Cleo has gone to the furthest corner. She’s always like that. Safety first. Every cat for herself.
Max’s favourite pose.
Time to go home. Say “bye” to Bunny.
And bye to Tabs.
Indy to Tabs: It’s safe now, you can come out. The dog is gone.
Lydia will be getting a splint made for Max and also a hip support which she will make herself after doing research on it.
We have fully sponsored RM25 for Max’s vaccination, RM10 for the urine test (his urine is still very yellow and concentrated) and RM40 for his homeopathy medicines. Max’s acupuncture treatments are free of charge, courtesy of Dr Susanna.
Lydia did not want to accept any money for all the physiotherapy that she has been doing for Max (which amounts to a lot and is something money cannot buy), but we have managed to insist that she accepts RM200 for Max’s food, physio and all other expenses.
Max’s expenses are sponsored by our Medical Fund, Martin Lui, Faizati Md Ali, Panda N Gang, Loh Yoke Khoon and Jeannie Teo.
Max is up for adoption too. Any takers? The adopter would need to make Max exercise every day (and in the process, exercise with Max!). According to Lydia, Max does not need a fulltime caregiver now, just someone to exercise him and give him lots of love.
