Dina took a few kittens out of the DBKL pound about two weeks ago, and we helped source for interested adopters. However, two of the kittens fell sick. We subsidised their medical treatment and Dina has been nursing them ever since.
Dina sent these updates on Jelly and Bean:
14th May
Bean's condition is really bad, he has an eye infection & flu.. He's not eating so I'm giving him A/D diet wth a syringe. I was really worried so I took him to Klinik Haiwan Genting Klang.. This morning he seems to be sniffing on his food but still not eating.. Jelly caught the flu & eye infection from Bean and I've given him Bean's medicine & eye drop too.. But Jelly is eating a lot now and is filling up.. I've been giving him different types of canned food as he wasn't eating in the beginning and noticed he LOVES Fussy Cat!!
Jelly
Still curious and very alert.
He seems to be ok.
Bean, the weaker of the two.
Bean at the vet's.
And this morning:
I have bad news on Bean, he was really weak yesterday morning and having difficulty to swallow even his medicine.. My heart just sank watching him, I fed him with dilluted A/D.. still he's having hard time to swallow.. At 3pm Bean passed.. Now Jelly seems to be searching for Bean, he's meowing & sniffing everywhere.. I tried explaining to him that Bean is no longer with us (I don't know if he understands me but he look at me with the most saddest eyes and I can't stop crying) They've grown to be very attached to each other since their other 2 siblings were separated from them.. Last night Jelly doesn't really want to eat (he begun eating a lot the past few days).. He looked at his food and sat next to it..
So sad to hear about Bean's passing. Take comfort in knowing that you have done your best for Bean, Dina. May he be in a better place now after having received all your love and care in his final weeks. I hope Jelly will be ok soon (health-wise and emotionally too).
CNRM will be the longterm solution to the problem of the overbreeding of stray animals and their capture by the authorities. The animal pounds are usually not hygienic places (to say the least); diseases abound and young animals would get infected very easily. They die, either because of disease or they are euthanised.
In our Selayang Pound "rescue" last year, many of the puppies eventually died because so many of them were infected with all kinds of diseases (tick fever, corona virus, distemper). Each puppy was sent for medical treatment, but puppies, having an immature immune system, might not fare very well.
A better solution to this problem would be to practise CNRM. It prevents unwanted births, and hence, unwarranted deaths.
