Spotlight on: INDO-PACIFIC BOTTLENOSE DOLPHIN
Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins are truly fascinating animals, displaying some of the most complex social behaviours seen in non-human animals, as revealed by long-term studies on wild populations.
These dolphins are also known to use tools: wild individuals have been observed carrying sponges on their beaks to protect them from sea urchin spines while foraging on the sea floor!
Unfortunately, we don’t have a photo of a wild dolphin to share (this is a captive individual). We looked for wild dolphins in the Solomon Islands, but couldnt find a single one. Its known the wild populations there have been depleted by captures to supply marine parks.
We’re urging Resorts World Sentosa to send the 25 wild-caught Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins that they purchased back to the Solomon Islands. Find out how you can get involved here www.saddestdolphins.com
