Dear Dr. Chan,
Thank you very much for your book, “Here for a Reason”. It touched me deeply, as I feel very similarly to what you have written.
When i lived in KL, from end 2007 till early 2010, I fostered 40 puppies and 2 kittens, as a volunteer with PAWS, animal shelter. I loved all my foster furry kids.I also fed many strays living in the wooded area near my condominium in Sri hartamas, but I wish i was able to CNRM them too.
I moved to Johor Bahru in 2011 to be able to buy a house with land so that my 4 rescued dogs can have space to enjoy their lives. 3 of them, Quincy, Star and Taichi are siblings that I rescued from a storm drain near the High Court, KL. They were about 1 or 2 weeks old and close to drowning as a storm resulted in flash floods which washed them away. My fourth dog is a mature chihuahua from PAWS, who was going to be euthanized as no one wanted to adopt her. She is now my beloved little one.
I now encourage and support dog rescue groups or independent individual rescuers, who are committed to trap, neuter, rehome/release homeless animals. I also sponsor animals at shelters like H.O.P.E in Johor, and Cherishlife in Hulu Langat, Selangor.
Like you, I so wish that more Malaysians would be more compassionate to homeless animals. I thank you for your book which I fervently hope will reach out to many people and result in improvements to animal welfare in the future.
With appreciation and warm regards,
Pearl HU.
