Cats tales
During the month, I brought Ziggy, Snow-snow and Tiffany to my home for R&R. Ziggy was taken to the vet on 1 Sep and was brought to my home when he was discharged a week later. He had a couple of weeks of R&R in my home before returning to the shelter. I was very impressed with Ziggy. He was such a good guest, not demanding, content to stay in the R&R villa alloted to him.

Dogs tale
When Imm and I were at the shelter one Sunday in early Sep, we noticed a small hole in Victoria’s head. The worker informed us that she had got into a fight with Margi. We examined the hole. Although it wasn’t bleeding, I thought it ought to be checked and cleaned daily for proper healing, so Victoria was taken to my home ..her 2nd R&R visit. Her 1st visit was in late May. She had joint pain on her left hind leg then. She stayed 3 days at the vet for treatment, and continued her medication and R&R in my home for a couple of weeks.Victoria’s real cute. Having stayed at my home before, she was very much at home and no longer acted shy & submissive with my 3 other dogs as before. I rechecked the hole in Victoria’s head when I got home. She allowed me to clean the hole. I was taken aback when I saw movement in the hole. A closer look confirmed my suspicion ..maggots! I used a tweezer to pull out the maggot and managed to get three out. I suspect there were more inside so I immediately took her to the vet. The vet syringed a solution into the hole to kill the maggots and instructed me to repeat the treatment later that night at home. We returned to the vet next morning. The vet tweezed out 3 dead maggots. There were more but Victoria was no longer cooperating. The vet had to give her a local GA to retrieve the remaining 7 dead maggots. There were 13 maggots in total.
With the removal of the maggots, the hole healed quickly. It was just as well we spotted the hole in her head as the vet also showed me the large area of swelling round the hole caused by the maggots activity. Victoria had a good bath, belly scrub and body masssage before returning to the shelter on 22 Sep.
The dogs again had their treat of PB’s sponsor of Aussie chuck bones in Sep. Some pix below.
Financial support to help feed the cats and dogs and maintain their shelter can be banked directly into Imm’s MBB a/c no. 1081 7873 2851 (Oei Phaik Imm).
