Here’s some happy news from Lydia about little Max!
Lydia has also taken Max back to foster in order to facilitate the frequency and intensity of the physiotherapy sessions.
From Lydia:
Hi Kah Yein,
Max has been eating well and playing a lot with his toys when he’s in his pen. He’s very comical when he gets excited and barks at his toys and “talks” to them in excitement.
For lunch he had minced meat, broccoli, pumpkin, carrot, liver and heart. He’s not used to eating fresh vegetables but with little persuasion, he’s beginning to discover that they are edible!! He’s eating 3 meals a day and usually polishes off his dish.
Max has two physio sessions a day working on his soft tissue contracture and adhesion. He has pelvic limb hyperextension and rigidity and muscle contracture can be so severe that the stifles and hocks can be hyperextended to the point that they appear to have the opposite orientation to normal.
The manual treatment options for Max’s contractures include stretching and heat therapy. Together these techniques aim at restoring mobility and building critical muscle.
Soft tissue adhesion is the fibrous connective tissue that is formed over a damaged area as the body attempts to repair this damaged tissue. Soft tissue adhesion can cause reduced range of motion, muscle weakness, pain, compensation patterns which cause problems in seemingly unrelated areas and if a nerve is entrapped it can cause numbness, burning or tingling.
Before massage or stretching, moist heat therapy is applied. I sewed him his own personal-size leg heat pack. Max is a brave little soul.
I’m seeing a very slight improvement in the stretch of some of his hind limb muscles. We have yet a long journey ahead of us and lots of work hours to clock
Chomp, chomp!
Me no like vegetables!

We cannot thank Lydia enough for offering to foster Max in the remaining two weeks and all the wonderful therapy, love and care she is giving him.
May Max recover quickly and surely!
