A Request From Pak Din (help Needed)
Pak Din (Nordin Hashim) comes under our Food Fund. He is 64 years old, unemployed and has no proper home. Pak Din lives in Gombak in a make-shift shack (which our reader, Connie James, very kindly refurbished for him recently). Although he barely has enough for himself, he looks after the stray dogs and cats in his community despite being ostracised because of cultural prejudices (against dogs) in this community.
Pak Din’s plight was highlighted to me by my friend, Chew Teng Ngin. Mr Chew and another friend, Mr Wuan, have been helping us collect and send food to Pak Din and ferrying his dogs to vets for treatment and even helping Pak Din get his basic necessities.
Currently, Mr Chew has a request from Pak Din. Please read the email below, and if you are able to help, kindly contact Mr Chew directly. Thank you.

Dear all well wishers of Pak Din,
Pak Din has been told to vacate his current premise due to his dogs. As I have reported before he is squatting illegally on malay owned land in a kampong area. The villagers have been tolerating his dogs but now that they are all grown up they seem to be making quite a din and its not acceptable to the villagers. He is thinking of moving deeper into the secondary jungle and put up a new hut. However I’ve visited the area before with him but personally I don’t think its suitable as there’s no water or electricity. Furthermore the dogs will still bark and run around so its a matter of time that they become a noticeable nuisance to the kampong folks.
Again I’d like to appeal to anyone who may have a farm or workshop/factory who need someone to stay on site or place for him bearing in mind he has 6 dogs and 7 cats. He don’t mind any caretaker kind of job even if no pay as long as he has place for himself and his animals.
Warmest regards to all,
Chew
Here are some photos of Pak Din and his dogs:
With one of his dogs at Klinik Kembiri for spaying.
Happy dogs.
They may not have a nice home, but they are well-fed, happy and healthy. All sick animals are taken to the vet for treatment. All the animals are also neutered.
This says it all.
We supply petfood for Pak Din but he seldom asks for it.
He tries to make do with whatever he can on his own and only asks when he is really short.
