As per the post above, I have made enquiries from one vet over here and was told the surgery requiring the insertion of metal plates would cost as much as what was quoted by Kelly’s vet.
A friend from Ipoh is also helping to obtain more information from the vet (because Kelly is unable to comprehend the technical details) and has met up with the vet this afternoon. The vet said the cause of the problem is inborn and is due to a “joint problem”.
I was also told that “10 out of 10″ vets in Ipoh will not do this surgery.
This friend also visited the puppy and she says the puppy “hops” using the buttocks. It appears that the rear legs cannot be used for walking. But the front legs are normal. When the puppy walks, the rear legs move in unison. She says it is really a pitiful sight. Also, the puppy “sits like a human” with its legs sticking out straight.
Since then, I have written to 5 other vets in the Klang Valley and am awaiting their response. However, without a report or X-Rays, diagnosis is difficult. A physical examination of the puppy may be very necessary.
In the meantime, one of our readers have offered a one-way transportation for the puppy from Ipoh to the Klang Valley should Kelly decide to seek another opinion.
If you are able consult your vets for an estimate form , such a surgery, please do leave a comment in this post.
Thank you.
