From Koo:
Dear all,
I just found out that the situation has turned around for the better.
Last night, after I left for home with the baby pup, the Kajang dog rescuers visited the Rawang police station for help and the Chief Inspector was kind enough to accompany them and mediate with the security guards. When they resume their dog rescue efforts, the Chief Inspector even helped to catch the brown orphaned puppy which somehow turned up and is now fostered by one of the dog rescuer cum retired lawyer.
In addition, MDDB has called the security chief and reached an amicable solution. The chief explained that he was offended by some of the words uttered in Indian by one of the dog rescuers and thus, he lost his temper. He assured that he also wants the best for the dogs. As a result, the dog rescuers just have to identify themselves and state their dog rescuing purpose at the guardhouse and everybody would be given permission to enter and continue their work.
MDDB has kindly agreed to loan 2 cages for the remaining 2 dogs in the next rescue effort this evening and provide dog food for the doggies. I'll pick them up after work today and join the other rescuers since they still want my help. It turned out that my dog-catching 'equipment' can be quite useful. My road map-reading skill would also be needed to help guide them to AnimalCare's panel vet for neutering/spaying.
Today, I also took the baby pup to AnimalCare's panel vet in Subang Jaya at lunchtime. Attached is a picture of the cutie enroute to the clinic.
As you can see, she wants to cuddle up to someone or she'll start whining and I had to do so with her on my lap while driving. The pup is a female, approximately 2-3 weeks old and weigh about 600g. It's suffering from a cough (small possibility of canine distemper), skin/fungal problem on its tail and worms inside her. The vet agreed that her size was a bit unusual and commented that she would grow into a medium-sized dog after inspecting its paw size. I would like to sincerely thank Dr Chan for sponsoring the vet cost and also recommending this vet which fortunately was very near my workplace. I hope we can get a fosterer(s)/adopter(s) for either the puppy and/or kittens because I'm overwhelmed now... but in a good way. : )
Thank you and kind rgds, Koo
Isn't she completely adorable?
Checking the tail with the ultra-violet light. Yes, it's fungus. Koo was given an anti-fungus cream and advised to apply oil on it. Also, it isn't so bad. It's already healing, actually.
The clinic needed a name for the cutie, and Koo was not up to name-giving at this point in time, so I offered "Winnie" as Koo wanted a survivor's name (Winnie Mandela, since she is female).
Sweet little Winnie. Her paws are pretty small, so she would grow up to be a medium-sized dog. She's up for adoption. Any takers?
Koo listening intently as the vet explains how to take care of Winnie, what needs to be done, how often, etc. Koo was taking down notes. Winnie is definitely in very good hands.
The vet showing Koo where to tap to loosen the phlegm when Winnie coughs. Let's hope it is only kennel cough and not a first sign of distemper. A cough syrup was prescribed.
You can tap quite hard, don't worry. You won't hurt her.
I'm tired...can I take a nap?
If you are interested to adopt or foster Winnie, please contact Koo on 016-6969272.
Right after this, I received a call from Puspa. Apparently, she was one of the 7 rescuers who turned up to help last night and this morning (they camped at the site all night) they had managed to catch one of the adult dogs. Puspa has appealed for help with the medical needs of this dog so she would be bringing the dog to our panel vet tomorow.
Winnie's medical bill today is covered from our funds. Azimah has told me that she cannot subsidise the medical expenses, so we shall make an exception this time and sponsor in full. She's already been through so much difficulty in getting these doggies rescued.
If any of the rescuers would like to re-donate any amount back into our fund to help the next animal, it would be much appreciated too. One good turn deserves another.
