Recently, there have been people requesting our help for spay-neuter, but insisting on boarding the animals. I'm very sorry we cannot cover boarding due to the following reasons:
1. Boarding costs money and we need to stretch our funds to reach out to more animals and their rescuers.
2. In the past, there had been cases where the animal is boarded and the rescuer does not pick up as agreed.
3. Our vets are all commercial vets who run their own private practice and they cannot offer us discounted boarding. We are already getting a discounted rate for spay-neuter and we are very thankful for that. We cannot and should not ask for so much "charity". Let's be fair to the vets, too.
4. The clinic environment is not a very healthy one. There are sometimes dogs or cats who come in with transmittable diseases like parvo virus, distemper, fungus, etc. A spayed-neutered animal is in a weakened state and may contract these diseases easily. It is also for this reason that one of our panel vets now absolutely does not allow boarding for spayed-neutered animals.
We understand that some rescuers need the boarding as they cannot foster the animals at home, but we also plead for your understanding that our arrangement with our vets is based on trust, goodwill and respect.
Money is not everything. Goodwill is.
I have given my word to our vets that our spay-neuter cases will be picked up by evening and not boarded. Please help me maintain this goodwill with our vets so that AnimalCare can survive a little longer. If we lose our vets, AnimalCare would have to close shop.
Unless prior arrangement has been made or you are willing to pay for boarding (upon agreement with our vets), please do not board your animals without the consent of the vets.
We just had a case of someone who did not pick up her animals and this is the peak boarding season as it is the school holidays. The vet has already told me that he is full. I had to apologise profusely to the vet for this, and if this goes on, we would lose the trust and goodwill of our vets.
Then, there was another case where someone sent her dog for spaying under us (specifically told her no boarding), but she started crying to the vet saying she could not nurse the dog after that. The vet allowed her to board the dog for 1-2 days but informed me they would prefer not to deal with such people again.
Most of the time, we deal with strangers. I work on trust. I hope this trust leads to goodwill and cooperation.
And, one of our other vets told me that many vets are "scared" of rescuers because they keep putting their rescues at the vets, asking for special rates and this causes much inconvenience to the vets and their practice.
Even Klinik Kembiri does not offer boarding for spay-neuter.
If you absolutely require boarding, please make your own arrangements and please pay for it.
Your cooperation is most appreciated.
Thank you.
