Khun Toom of Soi Dog spent Saturday & Sunday this past weekend at the Nakhon Phanom shelter managing Soi Dog’s vaccination program there.
Many thanks to volunteers from Dog Nation for giving up their weekend to help with the over 600 sterilizations that were performed. (Why not stop by their page and give them a Like and a thanks! — https://www.facebook.com/DogNationTeam)
4500 vaccines were delivered and vaccinations are continuing this week. Donations are still urgently needed to help feed, vaccinate, treat and sterilize the dogs at the 3 shelters were they are held. If you would like to consider donating please visit www.soidog.org/en/help
Khun Toom left Nakhon Phanom Sunday evening for the Khemmerat shelter to the south where rescued dogs are also being held. The Burriam shelter near there has been largely decommissioned and the fencing brought to Khemmerat to provide better segregation of the dogs.
Khun Toom writes: “Things look much better than on our earlier visit. The hospital area is very clean and importantly the ventilation has been greatly improved. A few sick dogs were in the hospital and being attended to. I brought more vaccines and medicine though we will probably need more soon.
The small building where post treatment recovery dogs are kept was extended under instructions from the shelters chief with a metal fence connecting the area from the main building as you can see in the photos I have attached.
The new kitchen was built near the main shelter is built and currently housing 2 mamas dog with their puppies ( 4 + 2) see from picture.
Quarantine has been improved per earlier discussions with chief of the shelter with temporary but good quarantine area close to same area where we did first sterilization of the 500 plus dogs. He has segregated it into 2 sections and put up a tent covering for shelter.
The dogs in the shelter, look to be in good shape and with segregation they are calm and not fighting. All have had sterilization and appear healthy.
The shelter chief told me that the 63 dogs rescued recently have all received their first vaccination and will receive their booster in early Sept. Speaking with him he asked that Soi Dog sterilize this group after the booster (Sept.) or early month of October depending on their condition post booster vaccination.”
