Today, when we brought the market cats to our panel vet, he remarked that they are not strays, but are community cats.
Well, yes, and that's because the market folks like Ah Fatt and the stall owners feed these cats and they are no longer afraid of humans. Christopher even prepares a small little cat-sanctuary for them to keep them safe and clean.
Even the cats in Asia Cafe are fed by some of the stall owners.
In a way, these cats could be luckier than some of the cats in our own backyard where they may be harmed by animal-hating neighbours.
Yesterday, a lady from Desa Hartamas called me asking for help. She and her neighbour have been feeding many stray cats (but had not got them spayed-neutered at all, hence, they have been multiplying). She said her other neighbour on the other side whacks the cats with a shovel whenever she sees them.
Sigh...
Yes, it takes all kinds to make the world.
If we CNRM the stray cats/dogs in our neighbourhood, then they no longer live as strays, but as community animals which are friendly and cared for by us humans. Then, maybe the chances of dogs being viciously aggressive could also be reduced. Cats might not dig people's rubbish bins so much if they are fed regularly by caregivers in the community.
People might stop complaining....?
If that could happen, wouldn't it be so wonderful?
A neighbourhood with no more strays. Only community animals, living symbiotically with us.
We care for them, and they care for us.
What a wonderful world that would be!
We can make it so, can't we?
Sharing is caring.
Most children know this. (Before adults re-condition their minds!)
