Updates On The Indah Water Dogs (from Ah Fatt)

If you remember, we had urged Ah Fatt to go to the pound to retrieve the mother-dogs and puppies that had been captured by the local council, but by the time Ah Fatt finally located the pound, he was told there were no mother-dogs and puppies there.

As for the remaining dogs at the Indah Water facility, apparently, the local council truck has been going in to capture the dogs. Ah Fatt thinks there might have been complaints from by certain groups of people nearby.

I remember two years ago when I spoke with a councilor, he said that as long as there are complaints from the public, they have to respond by capturing the strays. There can be no compromise on this. The only thing we can do is to stop the complainants. That is why we stress so much on neutering. Once the population can be kept under control, the complaining might lessen.

These are the two things that we have to do if we wish to safeguard the animals:

1. Urge the public to be more accepting of the presence of animals, ie. PLEASE do not complain.

2. Control/Reduce the population of the strays through compassionate ways (CNRM).

Currently, Ah Fatt has only managed to catch 4 of the dogs. All 4 are at the vet’s. One has a skin problem and is being treated and another cannot move all its legs and is on drips.

Now, even the Indah Water guard has problems approaching the dogs. Ever since they had been frightened by the local council dog-catchers, they run helter-skelter when they see any human and this makes it extremely difficult for Ah Fatt to round them up.

One dog at a time, then. That’s all he can do.

We will be subsidising the neutering and medical treatment of all these dogs, but Ah Fatt would need a place for them after they have been neutered and treated. If you know of any place, please leave a comment in this post. We will enquire at PAWS as well.
