Today has been an incredibly hectic day for me. The dumping of the 5 kittens really threw me off balance and upset my entire schedule for the day.
I had sought a second opinion about Jenny from our panel vet and was told amputation would be the better choice for Jenny. Another option is to do what is known as ankylosis but this would take 5-6 months to heal and I don't think Jenny would like that.
Upon discussion with Mei Leng, she agreed that we transfer Jenny to our panel vet since it would be nearer for the both of us to visit Jenny.
But no one was free this afternoon and I needed help to transport Jenny from PJ to SJ. I enlisted Lydia's help and she obliged. Thank you, Lydia. You certainly saved me a lot of time and energy as it's been really tiring the last few days.
Jenny was so easy to manage; she merely sat in the passenger seat of Lydia's car, all the way from PJ to Subang Jaya.
See that swollen paw...poor thing. She's been living with that for a long time.
Our vet said there is no urgency to do the operation. It can be done at the later date should the rescuer or fosterer wish to bond with Jenny first. This is for the psychological wellbeing of Jenny. However, we have no fosterer for Jenny.
Our role is merely to provide financial medical assistance and we have no fosterers at hand. We can blog for fosterers, but we cannot guarantee we'd find one.
That is why we work with rescuers who bring in their rescues and the rescues (after being treated) goes back to the rescuer.
But with Jenny's case, Mei Leng had not anticipated the need for amputation. Her plan initially was to get Jenny treated and then, return her to the colony since that place is quite safe.
But now, with only 3 legs, it might not be wise to return Jenny back to the colony as she would be a disadvantage.
We are hence helping Mei Leng to look a fosterer for Jenny. She would probably only need one night's boarding after the surgery (as with Amber Horsey) and we would have to get her discharged.
If you'd like to help foster Jenny, please contact Mei Leng on 012-9761958.
I asked what would happen if the amputation is not done. The vet said in time, Jenny might develop infection and that would turn really bad. Being a street dog, there might not be anyone to help her at all.
There is already an open wound on the paw now.
The vet also noticed some white discharge at her vulva. Poor Jenny also has vaginitis. Normally, in the case of vaginitis, spaying should only be done after the first heat.
Well, one thing at a time now....
Jenny is going in for amputation tomorrow. Please wish her well.
Mei Leng needs a fosterer for Jenny. Jenny is exceptionally meek and very mild-mannered. She ought to be quite easy to foster. Our vet said the fosterer could even confine her in a dry bathroom.
Please help if you can.
