UPDATE ON THE DOGS RECOVERED FROM SMUGGLERS 01- August

Soi Dog today purchased 7 tons of dog food for delivery to Nakhom Phanom to feed the dogs rescued in the past week from the Dog Meat traders. 5 tons of rice will be purchased tomorrow by SDF locally.

Soi Dog President Dr. Suchon Jittanonta (a veterinarian) and SDF coordinator Khun Toom will arrive at Nakhon Phanom tomorrow to assess the immediate medical needs of the dogs and to arrange purchase and express delivery of the necessary medicines, surgical equipment and vaccines for the dogs.

It was a condition of the Nakhom Phanom Governor in accepting the dogs that SDF would cover the costs involved for them being there.

Volunteers from the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai have arrived on site and are assisting with the segregating and feeding of the dogs.

Meanwhile in Khemmaret the SDF team working there have now sterilized over 500 of the dogs. Some are not well enough to be sterilized at this time and others being taken for adoption we were refused permission to sterilize by the group organising the adoptions.

SDF are also looking into hiring a lawyer to fight a decision made that gives dog meat traders the right to claim back dogs previously rescued, as happened 3 weeks ago with another group that was intercepted.
