Championing The Use Of Guide Dogs To Help The Blind In Malaysia

Mr Stevens Chan contacted me shortly after the PetWorld event. He is initiating a project to bring in guide dogs to Malaysia to help the blind and visually impaired. He is also working on getting approval to let guide dogs assist their humans on public transport and in public places.

If you’d like to support this project and initiative, there will be an event to create the awareness on 28th and 29th July 2012. Your support will be most appreciated.

For more information, please read on.

An excerpt of Stevens’ earlier correspondence with me:

Dear Dr Chan,

The reason for this email is to introduce to you our campaign to
bring in Guide Dogs into our nation to help the Blind be more mobile
in their daily lives. Guide Dogs has been used extensively for the
past 60 years in more than 70 countries worldwide to help the Blind
lead a independent life. Recently Guide Dogs has also been used to aid
Autistic children. For more info on our campaign Dogs for Sight please
like us atwww.facebook.com/dogsforsight
Our organisation has recently been accepted into the International
Guide Dogs Federation who is kindly agreed to help us in the setting
up a Guide Dogs service in Malaysia. Our challenge is in the
accessibility legislartion in our country that do not allow Pets to
travel in Public Transport and have access to Public Amenities and
Places. Until and unless we obtain an approval from the Councils to
agree to identify Guide Dogs are not Pets but Working/Service Dogs
then perhaps they may allow the Guide Dogs to travel with their blind
owners. Thats the basic condition for us to bring in the Guide Dogs
from other supporting Guide Dogs organisation from overseas. Its an
uphill task but we believe its a worthy cause and is more than willing
to go the extra mile for the Blind.
Since June 2012 we have started a Signature Petition campaign in a bid
to garner Public support and donations for the campaign. Postcards has
been printed for the Signature campaign and we are also asking for a
minimum RM10 donation for every signed Postcard. We are hoping to
garner 100,000 Signatures hopefully within 1 year. With the Signatures
we are hoping to get the Council’s attention and willingness to
dialogue and help us with the Guide Dogs.
I have visited Dr Chan website and hope to seek Dr Chan support to
assist us in this campaign perhaps by publicising our campaign on your
website. Is there a possibility Dr ? I do hope that you can help us
make that difference to a Blind person life.
In the coming months we will be doing a few events to raise the
awareness beginning with :

1. July 28 to 29 Desa Park City 3 to 7pm
2. Sept 8 1U Center Park3 to 7pm

The star attraction of the event is Kendra, a guide dog from Singapore
and her bblind partner Cheng Hock. Other activities includes sales of
donated items and an a Glaucoma eye check.
We do hope that Dr can come and visit our event but it will even be
greater if Dr can participate. Being new to this field we do hope to
gain Dr’s advice and support.
We look forward to hearing from you soon. For more information on our
works please visit our webbsites,www.saveonesight.orgor
www.glaucomal.orgThanking you in anticipation of a favorable reply.

Warmest regards,
StevensChan
