UPDATE ON DMT ADOPTIONS
Soi Dog is suspending for the time being the removal of dogs from the Khemmerat shelter for adoption to the UK OR EUROPE. These dogs need to spend 3 months in Thailand prior to departure (blood test requirements, etc.) & we no longer have any space left to house these dogs for the 3 months pending their travel. Our Bangkok facility is full & our Phuket shelter is at capacity.

Dogs going to UK also need volunteers to accompany them to UK via Europe & we already have in excess of 30 dogs still requiring transportation. This in itself will be a huge logistical exercise & just getting these dogs to their new homes will be a major operation reliant on the generosity & time donated by volunteers. It is possible that we may be able to re-introduce a UK/European adoption program for these dogs in the future once the current backload have been cleared. Contact cindy@soidog.org re adoptions.

It is possible we may still be able to arrange removal of dogs who are being adopted to USA/Canada as these dogs do not require the 3 month quarantine period. However, in order for these dogs to be removed adopters must be able to afford to send as cargo & the costs must be paid prior to the dogs removal. We cannot guarantee that the selected dog will still be able to be found & he/she will also need to be tested for distemper and other highly contagious diseases before removal & receive vaccinations. Of course, should the dog not be adopted due to distemper, other conditions etc. the adopter’s monies will be returned.

Soi Dog will now be concentrating on the dogs left in the shelter who are currently dying at the rate of approx 10 per day. We are starting a mass sterilization/vaccination operation in the coming weeks in the hope of reducing the death rate & preventing unwanted puppies. So rather than trying to save a lucky few, we are going to concentrate on saving the bulk of the dogs who without help, will inevitably die.

The dogs are not segregated or sterilized, so puppies are already being born there. There is no qualified vet on site and the staff, although well meaning have no training in the management of dogs. Seriously ill dogs are being put in a separate building to die.

Soi Dog has organized a private veterinary team to go there in the next 10 days to sterilize and vaccinate all the animals, taking essential medications and providing basic training to the staff there. Soi Dog has also authorized the funding of separate buildings, properly fitted out as hospital and isolation units. In addition funding will be provided for building separate containment areas so that dogs that have been sterilized can properly recover with less chance of secondary infections.
