Crackdown On Illegal Dog Fur Trade, And An Alternative To Using Leather

And while in the previous post we talked about how dogs were domesticated and respected for how they helped our ancestors at hunting, and cats were equally respected and even worshiped, and we also said how times have changed…
Yes, it certainly has, sadly so. Dogs and cats these days are ill-treated, exploited, abused, killed.
Take a look at this:http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/crackdown-on-illegal-dog-fur-trade-20120602-1zor1.html#ixzz1wjmQXkG8
It’s not new news, though, as years ago, we’ve already read that leather products are actually made from stray dogs’ and cats’ skin. According to reports, the illegal trade is allegedly rampant in the Indo-China region as well as China. And now, they are talking about kidnapping pets to be skinned alive.
Have you seen how animals are skinned alive? You probably wouldn’t want to watch any youtube on this and neither would I as it’s totally horrendous and utterly cruel.
So, here’s what we can do – Reduce the use of leather, or better still, boycott leather!
We don’t need to use leather, do we?
We certainly do not wear furs.
Car seats? Go fabric.
Leather shoes? How about canvas or other materials? I wear sneakers to work and for the garden, PVC slippers.
Wallets? Aha….let me show you what my friend, Huey, does. She has this wonderful project where she supplies materials and teaches single mothers how to sew wallets made from old billboard banners (yes, plastic). It’s all about recycling and it is protecting the environment and protecting animals from being skinned alive.
Think about how meaningful it would be to use it. We say we are animal-lovers, so let’s live up to that label.

You see, we do have a choice, don’t we?
Buy them as presents instead of designer leather goods, send a strong message to the younger generation, they are the hope for the future, but they need our guidance.
