Subject: Re: AnimalCare Contact: Stray cats & dogs sterilization possibilities in Gerik Town, Perak, Malaysia
To: Chan Kah Yein <chankahyein@gmail.com>

Having spent the past 5 months in Gerik, Perak, Malaysia; I encountered many stray cats and dogs. Some of them have burnt skins, and bruises over their bodies. A kind elderly couple I met, who have been feeding the stray cats and dogs, on top of keeping 9 cats and 6 dogs on their own, told me they want to sterilize them so to control their population in this town. There are estimated 10 cats from what I observed roaming in the town area. There may be more since I only go to certain parts of the town regularly. The stray dogs are usually in the rubber plantations. Sometimes workers or trespassers, who are afraid of them, would hit them badly. One time a dog’s neck was chopped by ‘parang’ so badly it almost died. This is not counting the residential neighborhoods. In view of this, I think it takes good planning and more hands to make the sterilization works in this town. I will have to help them as much as possible before I leave Gerik in end June. Can anyone help to take up this project?

We have offered to subsidise the neutering but the help needed now is to transport the animals from Gerik to Ipoh (or any nearer vet) for the procedures.

Alternatively, if any vet or vets are able to go to Gerik to do the procedures, that would be feasible too.

We are open to suggestions.

If you are able to help, please contact Lih Loo directly at her hp or email above.
