A Closure To Baloos Unexpected Demise

Baloo’s demise was totally unexpected and untimely, and everyone was shocked. I wish to thank all who have expressed their condolence and kind wishes as Baloo and Baggy are very dear and special to me.
I was only determined to find out more about the possible cause of death as I wanted to safeguard Baggy, just in case it was due to some disease, we would have to do everything possible to protect Baggy.
Since a post-mortem was not done, we can only speculate what could have caused it.
The possibilities are endless, but the closest guess is poisoning since there was blood in the lungs (could have been blood or bloody pus) and also a fever prior to shortness of breath.
Mr Teh was determined to get to the bottom of this as he too was very shocked by the sudden death of Baloo.
Last week, Mr Teh managed to get the CCTV person to play back the tapes and in one tape, it was found that Baloo had gone into the toilet. According to Mr Teh, dead cockroaches have often been found inside this toilet, probably due to ingesting the termite pesticide. The office has termite control, but the cats’ room are spared from this procedure and the cats are not let out until after a certain number of days after the termite treatment is done.
Perhaps Baloo ate a dead cockroach that had been poisoned. Perhaps someone had forgotten to close the toilet door tightly despite the signage to remind all staff to close the door. Baloo and Baggy are known to be able to skilfully open doors of cupboards and open drawers. They were extremely playful.
This would be the closest guess we have for now.
Accidents happen, we understand.
We can only take comfort in knowing that lifespan is determined and once our time is up, we will go. We don’t know how, but it will happen.
Andy and Emily sent Baloo to the vet for treatment after discovering she was unwell. After two days, when it was discovered there was blood in her lungs, surgery was done to remove the blood, but this procedure is extremely complicated and high-risk. Yet, that was the only thing to do. The procedure is called ‘thoracentesis” and our vet confirmed how complicated it is.
Perhaps after knowing the probable cause of death, Andy has decided that the office may not be a safe enough place to let Baggy stay in. For that matter, neither is any house. We can only do our best and ensure that our pets are as safe as possible.
Andy has decided to let Baggy stay with me now.
As a friend said when Baggy was sent back to me for fostering two weeks ago, “When you love someone, let her go. If she comes back to you, she is meant to be yours.”
Perhaps…but the truth is, nobody belongs to anybody. Our paths cross, we do our best for each other, and no relationship is ever permanent. Cherish the moment and because moments are all we have.
I wish to thank Andy for offering to adopt Baloo and Baggy when I put them up for adoption last year. During that time, my house wasn’t safe enough as the road infront was very dangerous and I did not have any enclosed cat-space in my old house. Baloo and Baggy were sent to me for fostering but I ended up having to rehome them as well. Indy was running further and further away from home every day due to jealousy. Andy stepped in to help and I will always be grateful for that.
Baggy is back with me now and life has to go on.
She seems to be adjusting well to life with my cats. Tabs plays with her. Baggy has also taken over Pole’s condo and she likes to spend some quiet time on her own too.
Baggy eats very well now and everything seems to be alright.
One day at a time. That’s all we have.
We need to live in the moment, do our best and leave the rest. It’ll all come right, some day or night.
