Today, Anna (the adopter) and her brother, Joe, brought Cici to our vet for a third opinion on her bad eye. I managed to meet up with them at the vet’s.
Here’s Cici.
According to Anna and Joe, Cici is still very active, she is eating well, and everything seems alright except that feeding the medication is a bit of a struggle.
Cici has glaucoma in the bad eye.

Our vet is of the opinion that the eye cannot be saved and surgery is inevitable. The only problem now is that Cici is only about 2 months old and the risk of going through surgery is a bit high (due to her young age). So, our vet’s advice is for Anna to monitor Cici very closely, and the moment Cici appears to be unwell, she should be brought in for surgery. Signs to look out for would be when Cici scratches the eye (indicating pain or discomfort), when appetite deteriorates or a general deterioration in wellbeing.
Right now, as examined by our vet, there doesn’t seem to be any discomfort.
Another option suggested by our vet is for Anna to consult the two vet-opthalmologists in the Klang Valley. Anna has been given their contact details.
We discussed the matter at length today, and Anna will let the options sink in and make a well-informed decision. For now, our vet has suggested artificial tears for Cici, and she can continue with the antibiotics.
We also asked our other vet to check, and she too thinks the eye has to go before infection sets in and more harm is done. But the crucial question now is, how much longer can we wait before Cici is fit enough to go through surgery?
Normally, it is recommended that any infant animal is 6 months old before surgery is done, but this is again dependent on the health condition of the animal and the necessity of the surgery.
We hope today’s visit to our vet has given Anna more information regarding Cici’s condition and the options that she has.
