A Major Milestone Has Just Been Achieved In The Jo..

🎉A major milestone has just been achieved in the journey to protect companion animals in Viet Nam.🎉

The handbook “National Assembly Deputies With The Improvement Of Policies And Laws On Animal Protection” has been officially launched. This marks an important effort to strengthen the legal framework for managing and protecting animals, particularly companion animals like dogs and cats.

The handbook is the result of a joint initiative between the Deputy Affairs Board (under the Standing Committee of the National Assembly), SBCC Vietnam, and the Soi Dog Foundation. It provides practical guidance for implementing animal welfare practices, while also identifying current policy gaps and proposing solutions — including raising awareness to ending the dog and cat meat trade.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Deputy Affairs Board, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, shared that the handbook will help build understanding of animal care legislation among National Assembly representatives and local leaders, supporting the development of future laws protecting companion animals.

“This guide is a global announcement of Viet Nam’s historic shift in prioritising the lives and well-being of companion animals including dogs and cats; thus, heading towards ending dog and cat meat trade situation in Viet Nam,” said Rahul Sehgal, Director of International Advocacy at Soi Dog Foundation. “As an alliance agency, we stand ready to support Viet Nam’s legislators with expertise and resources as they work toward this important goal. The Council’s leadership vision will drive policies that aligns with international standards and enhances Viet Nam’s global reputation.”

The handbook has been published on the official website of the National Assembly Representatives Training Center and is incorporated into the General Committee of the Vietnamese National Assembly.
