On International Day of Forests, we highlight a key step in strengthening community engagement in forestry. The Sabah Forestry Department and WWF-Malaysia co-organised a Stakeholder Consultation Workshop for the Toolkit on Community Engagement in Forestry, Sabah (KIPMAPS), bringing together over 60 participants from government agencies, non-governmental organisations, private companies, and local communities to provide feedback on the toolkit. Held on 26 February 2025, the workshop aimed to refine and enhance the toolkit’s effectiveness for all users.

KIPMAPS, for Kit Informasi Penglibatan Masyarakat Dalam Perhutanan Sabah in Malay, is a user-friendly guide to forest regulations in Sabah. It is designed to enhance community involvement in forestry and standardise grievance procedures. It simplifies key topics like problem-solving, resource access, and sustainable forestry for easy reference. By incorporating diverse stakeholder perspectives, KIPMAPS helps bridge information gaps and strengthen forest protection efforts.
