29 November: Rabbits Found at Zhenghua Nature Park
On 29th November, the SPCA was alerted to two rabbits spotted at Zhenghua Nature Park. Our Animal Rescue Officer, along with volunteers from Bunny Wonderland, immediately responded to the scene to secure the animals. The team managed to secure one rabbit after an hour. Our Inspector later joined the effort, and with the use of a scoop net and teamwork, the second rabbit was successfully rescued.
The rabbits were handed over to Bunny Wonderland for recovery and care, and have been affectionately named Zayne and Zenni.
3 December: Rabbits Abandoned Under an HDB Block
Just four days later, the SPCA received a report of rabbits abandoned in a cage at the washing area under Block 407, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10. The rabbits were visibly frightened and suffering from severe skin issues. The caller kindly moved the cage to a sheltered area while awaiting our help.
An SPCA Animal Rescue Officer was dispatched to the scene and transported the rabbits to our clinic for immediate veterinary treatment. The rabbits were diagnosed with scabies, a highly contagious disease. Tragically, one of the rabbits went into cardiac arrest during examination and could not be saved. The second rabbit passed away on 10 December.
Both incidents have been reported to the authorities and are currently under investigation.
Rabbits are extremely vulnerable animals and their chances of survival in the wild are very slim.
If you suspect an animal has been abandoned, please try to secure the animal if it is safe to do so or keep watch until help arrives. Document the situation with photos or videos, and report immediately to the SPCA, AVS, or police for prompt intervention.
