At WWF-Malaysia, we honour this day by reaffirming our commitment to upholding dignity, equity, and inclusion in all our conservation efforts. This year’s theme, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,” inspires us to take action and ensure human rights are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we can create a just and sustainable future for people and nature.
Safeguards are at the heart of WWF’s mission, ensuring our work protects human rights, improves livelihoods, and delivers better outcomes for people and nature. WWF’s Environmental and Social Safeguards Framework (ESSF) provides a unified approach to managing risks, upholding standards, and addressing concerns effectively.
Over the past three months, WWF-Malaysia’s Sabah Landscapes Programme conducted training within two areas we actively work in – Tabin Landscape and Tawau-Kunak Landscape. Participants, including those involved in restoration work, including representatives from the Sabah Forestry Department, and members from local cooperatives comprising palm oil smallholders and medium-sized growers, gained in-depth insights into respecting human rights, promoting gender equality, and understanding Free, Prior, and Informed Consent . The sessions also provided knowledge on applying ESSF principles and managing complaints effectively through established Complaints Resolution Mechanism guidelines.
By embedding safeguards in everything we do, we’re building stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable conservation outcomes.
