WWF-Malaysia is proud to be a part of the 4th Borneo Colloquium on Environmental Justice alongside the Sabah Courts, Sabah State Attorney-General’s Chambers, and dedicated state agencies. Representing Dr. Henry Chan, Sheelasheena Damian, WWF-Malaysia’s Policy Analyst and Legal Counsel, expressed gratitude to our partners who made this event possible and underscored our shared commitment to protecting Borneo’s natural heritage.
This year’s theme, “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System on the Environment: Best Practices and Challenges in Sabah,” is timely. As we tackle real challenges in environmental law enforcement, this colloquium unites state agencies to exchange best practices and address obstacles together, advancing environmental justice.
Congratulations to the Sabah State Attorney General’s Chambers for launching a new Enforcement and Prosecution section—a key step forward in strengthening State law enforcement! WWF-Malaysia is honoured to collaborate with the judiciary on initiatives like sentencing guidelines for wildlife and forest crimes and developing SOPs with the Sabah Wildlife Department, Sabah Forestry Department, and Sabah Parks. Together, we’re building a stronger framework to protect Sabah’s ecosystems.
Environmental justice is both a legal and moral duty. Together, we’re empowering action to refine enforcement and prosecution practices for a more just, effective system that safeguards our environment.
