In 2022, WWF-Malaysia, in partnership with the Department of Wildlife and National Park Peninsular Malaysia (DWNP) set out to assess the management effectiveness of six major national parks and wildlife reserves under DWNP’s authority using the Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT).
By November 2024, all six sites had been re-assessed and the results showed significant improvements in their overall management effectiveness highlighting DWNP’s dedication to safeguarding our protected areas.
This milestone would not have been possible without the active participation of DWNP staff who were entrusted with this heavy responsibility. The updated assessment also identified more strategic actions to continually improve the management effectiveness of these protected areas.
Together, we are enhancing the community of protected area practitioners towards securing the natural heritage in Malaysia! Join us in taking meaningful action to create lasting conservation impact and safeguard Malaysia’s natural treasures.
