Meet Anderian Alfonso or Andy for short. He is the newest panda among the Sarawak Wildlife Conservation team members. He joined WWF-Malaysia as a programme assistant in 2023.

A graduate in quantity surveying, Andy has always been fascinated by nature, which sparked his curiosity on wildlife and the ecosystems.

A unique challenge he faces when out in the field is his feet! In his words, “I have big feet – size 45 – which makes it hard for me to find suitable trekking shoes. Walking in the jungle, trekking steep hills and slippery river rocks, my rubber shoes or ‘Adidas kampung’ as we call them, always end up with holes after every fieldwork. I’ve lost my toenails too. Sometimes I would bring spare rubber shoes for a long trip just in case the ones I wear break up. I could not find ‘Adidas Kampung’ size 45 in Kuching. I have to buy them from Sibu through a colleague. I would ask him to buy three pairs at a time.” 🥾👣

Despite all sorts of field work challenges, Andy’s dedication for wildlife conservation remains strong. 💪🏼🌳
