Asking For Funds To Continue With Our Operations I..

Asking for funds to continue with our operations is getting more difficult by the day. In addition to managimg MDDB, I have to also resort to delivering lessons in politics as well as NGO management. Yesterday someone compared us with an NGO which raises funds for human causes and said that they are transparent as they stop fund raising when the amount is met. I gave him an educational narrative but he deleted his post and disappeared soon after.
The NGO he was comparing us with raises funds for medical purposes for people through its society account. Since I also raise funds for human causes, let me tell you that posting a pix of a person who is seriously in need of medical aid can bring in about RM25,000 a day. When I raise funds for a human cause:
a) I write about their plight in the media and ask those who want to donate to drop us an email.
b) I reply their emails and attach the person’s account details and tell them to send me a copy of the transfer slip for tabulation. This is because I believe that every sen collected should go to the recipient. I usually fix the number of days according to the amount I believe will cover the recipient’s needs.
c) Once I have tabulated the amount and cross checked it with the recipient, I would publish the amount collected in the media. Not a sen comes to us.
For me this is transparency. When an NGO takes funds into its own account for a human cause which requires, say, RM100,000 – it usually collects much more than that amount. Once the RM100,000 is dispersed to the recipient, the balance goes into its coffers towards the NGO’s administration. Usually the NGOs do not share how much exactly was collected in totality.
Then there was another fellow who came and said that one needed to be hard hearted to rescue animals and went on an incredulous narrative of utter gibberish-speak.
Finally, I had to also disperse a lecture on politics 101 when someone suggested that we go to Teluk Intan to engage its MP. MPs are policy makers and if I go to Nga Kor Ming’s constituency – he would may give me RM2,000 from his service centre’s petty cash or may ask me to apply for funds under his upcoming allocation which would also be RM2,000. All parliamentary constituencies have state assembly constituencies and it’s the state assembly men who serve the people in the constituencies as opposed to the MP. So, I have to go to either Pasir Bedamar or Changkat Jong to engage the assemblymen. They would assume that the challenges of raising funds have made me gravely ill in the head and that is why I have gone to them to seek funds when even the Perak-based NGOs don’t.
And rural and suburban folks certainly do not have much cash to spare as opposed to the urban folks.
So, folks, please donate if you are able to, and those who want lessons in running an NGO or want narratives on local and national politics – feel free to give your opinions or two-cents worth.
Finally, it takes people with big hearts to contribute towards animal welfare and so here’s a cheers to all of you for your kindness.
Thank you.
