The Sabah Government has launched a dedicated 10-year Action Plan to Combat Wildlife Crime (2024–2035), led by the Sabah Wildlife Department. This landmark initiative was officially launched by Datuk Josie Lai, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. This action plan is a strategic effort to protect Sabah’s unique wildlife from illegal trade, poaching, and cybercrime threats.

Designed to tackle challenges such as smuggling, illegal hunting, and online wildlife trading, the plan serves as a guiding framework for proactive, collaborative conservation. By empowering stakeholders and strengthening enforcement networks, Sabah aims to create a safer future for endangered species under the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997.
