In August 2024, ACRES received reports of pigeon culling in Ang Mo Kio. During our visits, we found bread and vegetables that were potentially tossed from units above, despite clear “Do Not Feed” signs. ACRES has been engaging with feeders (if known), with town councils and also filing reports of feeding for enforcement action.
Feeding pigeons, though well-intentioned brings more suffering to animals in a densely developed city state like #Singapore. It creates dependency, leading to overpopulation and drastic measures like culling. But does culling solve the problem? Or does it just result in more successful breeding, creating a cycle of harm?
Studies have proven that humane, long-term solutions addressing the root cause have worked in other cities. But it requires behavioural change from every single resident, to ensure hygiene and proper food waste management, so the pointless killing can end! 🕊️💚
