Catch WWF-Malaysia Conservation Director Dr Henry Chan on Astro AWANI tomorrow 2 August 2024 from 9.45am to 10.30am.
The Malayan tiger, ‘Harimau Malaya’, was recognised as its own subspecies in 2004 and is considered the national animal of Malaysia, despite the lack of an official law or declaration.
Yet, there are fewer than 150 Malayan tigers left in the wild. The most recent report of a tiger found dead in Bentong, is the third such death in six months and the fifth in 2024.
Dr Henry Chan, Conservation Director of WWF-Malaysia, discusses ongoing conservation efforts for protecting tigers which also empower indigenous communities and ensure ecological sustainability.
