Gerald’s Quiet Time

Does it even exist?

Yes, when he takes his long naps.

The funny thing is, he sometimes mews early at dawn, even as early as 5am. I’d still be asleep, and it wakes me up and I’m too tired to go downstairs. So I just “telepathise” (if such a word exists, that is) the message to him, “Gerald, please, it’s still very early, everyone wants to sleep, please don’t mew”. I don’t even say it out loud, I just think it and almost always, it works. He would keep quiet and I could go back to sleep.

This telepathy works early at dawn, from upstairs to downstairs, in my half-awake state too. But it doesn’t work in the day time, whether I think it or say it out loud! Perhaps it’s a semi-subconscious thing at work?

Ever since Gerald came in to stay, he has been monopolising the bed and the Blondies have had to find elsewhere to sleep. But I changed the bedspread today, and look…Akira has taken back their spot! And Gerald has taken over Akira’s spot on the shelf. Hopefully, the Blondies get back their bed.
