Hear from Naomi Clark-Shen , our inspiring ACRES board member dedicated to marine conservation in Southeast Asia:
“I grew up in #Singapore. When I was 11 years old, I turned vegetarian. Having recognized at an early age that all animals – including sea creatures like fish – have personalities and the capacity to feel pain, I decided that eating animals was indefensible.
Sea creatures continue to be the most exploited animals on Earth. Trillions are killed each year by aquaculture and fisheries. An estimated 90% of large predatory fishes such as tuna, swordfish, codfishes, and sharks have already disappeared because of fisheries. Yet despite the enormous impact fisheries have on the oceans, adopting a plant-based diet, or even reducing your meat intake, is rarely promoted as a solution to this crisis.
Some people in this world are not fortunate enough to have a choice when it comes to what they eat. But if you are able to, exploring a plant-based diet is truly impactful – for the animals, the climate, the oceans, and your health.”
Animals deserve compassion, and the Earth deserves a respite from exploitation. 🌱💙
