Putin is not only an FIP survivor (using the human-grade drug, Molnupiravir), his owner told me that Putin was lost for THREE whole weeks recently. Luckily she has a cat chat group with the surrounding residents and she sent out the alert. A kind resident found Putin in a different apartment area, rescued him and reunited him with his owner!
We need the help and collaboration of kind people to care for our animals. Getting lost or escaping from home are not uncommon. It can happen no matter how careful we are. That is why for dogs, we strongly recommend letting them wear collars with the owner’s contact details in them or letting them wear a GPS tracker. For cats, unfortunately, we have to weigh between the collar and the risk of the collar getting them entangled and suffocating because cats jump.
On a different subject, this is also why all neutered females must be ear-notched. The surgical wound would not be visible after 6 months, so only the ear-notch is the proof that the animal has already been neutered. Without it, a good samaritan might take the cat/dog for spaying again and the vet would have to do more to “look for” the reproductive organ when it actually isn’t there anymore.
