Sihui brought Ryan and Jayden over to pay their last respects to Indy this morning.
Ryan left for school after that while Jayden will be at our house all day.
The boys are too young to understand what death is. But maybe when they grow older and look back at the photographs, they will understand it. The book, “The Sky Goes on Forever” is a wonderful secular children’s book to teach them about death.
I like that it teaches children what is; and it doesn’t mask death in myths and beliefs. “What is” may not be palatable, even to adults, but that is what death is. The deceased is gone; only our memories of them remain.
It describes “spirit” as the “feeling energy” of a living being. That’s brilliantly secular.
How much does a child understand? I think not yet.
Jayden still thinks he can play with Indy. So I distracted him.
We went to look for Ginger. Cow Mau and Indy were our two cats who would allow Jayden to literally do “anything” to them. As rough as he would be sometimes, they just let him be and never ever retaliated with even a warning growl. Our Royal Guards were so understanding and loving to children. Our females, on the other hand, aren’t as compromising. They run away because Jayden gets too excited. Jayden loved hugging Cow Mau and Indy. That is what he would do every day when he came to our house.
Now, Ginger is the only huggable cat we have left.
Ginger is your cat friend now, Jayden.
