I got up at 3am today.

Some people are going to get very upset because I got up “so early”, but they forget to ask what time I slept last night. Haha.

I slept at 8pm. So that’s 7 hours of sleep, which is quite sufficient for an elderly person like me.

Also, in yoga, the advice is to sleep 2 hours after sundown and rise 2 hours before sunrise. So okay, I slept too early and rose too early, but it’s okay. I’m not complaining.

Tabs accompanies me as I read whatever news I’ve missed out since 8pm last night. Nowadays, you either get very annoyed or very entertained by our local news. So, you either get angry or you roll on the floor laughing. Take your pick. But the rising cost of living is a real issue and it definitely affects us animal caregivers – that, is no laughing matter, of course.

Gerald came back at 4am to mew loudly and continuously for breakfast. So I have to very quickly go out and feed them both lest the mewing awaken neighbours and I have to bear the brunt of complaints…again. Misty doesn’t mew much, it’s Gerald.

I think that even if I bring Gerald in (and Misty, of course), he will mew even more, because he would want to go back out to his favourite haunts. His insistent mewing would definitely drive the neighbours up the wall. If you hope his mewing would stop after some time, no, it might not, not for a ginger cat. I remember when our Ginger mewed for months and months when the Monsters were adopted. That was one of the saddest time of my life, but let’s not go there now. The Monsters are back…for good, until they outlive me.

Last night, there were very loud and deafening fireworks. Husband told me to just accept it as a way of life. I was worried about Misty as she was nowhere to be seen. Even after the fireworks, I could not find her in the porch.

There are many things that humans do which we may not like. Fireworks is one, for me. But there is nothing we can do about it. Catch-and-kill is another, but again, changing the council by-laws is not in our hands at all. It is in the hands of the clowns but they cannot even control the cost of living, so….

My feeding principle for Tabs is “as long as she eats”. All geriatric pets qualify for this feeding principle.

How I miss seeing Cow Mau and Indy at this door every morning. Now, nobody greets me every morning at this door anymore. The Blondies are busy doing their own thing.

Next task: Feeding the Blondies.

I’ll start with two flavours of Cubgrub. Today, it’s duck and chicken. Hooray, Akira went for the duck. They need the novel protein and protein rotation.

Every day when I scoop out food for the cats and cats, being carnivores, have to eat meat, I feel very sorry and sad for the poor animals that have been killed for food. I do. I really do. Every single time. But yet, cats are carnivores, what else can they eat?  I just read a news report about lab-grown meat being used in pet food soon. Is lab-grown meat bioavailable to the animals? I don’t know enough, but theoretically, it should be, because a biopsy is done from an animal (without killing) and the cells are placed in petri dishes with amino acids and carbohydrates to help the muscle cells or cells from whichever part of the body multiply and grow. Once enough muscle fibers have grown, the result is a meat that resembles the real thing, but no animal has been killed in the process. It all sounds good, doesn’t it? After all, we just don’t want the killing.

If there is one thing I want from technology, let it be to reduce killing.

Riley is eating the grass that we brought back yesterday.

Indra says no.  I had to follow her around, putting the bowl in various places, changing the food, until…

…she finally ate at this spot.

I know, I know the litter box is near and that I should not feed her here, but this is the only spot she would want to eat at.

This is the trouble with photos. Someone sees the photo and will shout “Abuse! Feeding so near a litter box!!”  That’s what keyboard warriors do. They see a photo or read something (like me waking up at 3am) and make lots of assumptions and accusations. And the news circulates and in the process gets added with more herbs and spices. Why do humans delight in doing such things with their time?

Samantha did not want to eat this morning. She’ll ask for food later.

My favourite part of the day – feeding the Monsters! Can you spot Lynx?

Later, I relented and gave the ginger Blondies canned food.

Ryan and Jayden are coming today for the whole day since it’s term break from school for Ryan, so I need to get everything done before they arrive.

Next up is Tabs’ subcut and then, I’m done for the morning.
