This morning was a lucky morning.
Tabs has not eaten Cubgrub for many days now. And I didn’t know how to make/entice/coax her to eat it.
So I tried something rather risky today. She likes the AIM supplement, so I mixed the AIM supplement into a fair amount of Cubgrub and offered it to her. Even as I was doing it, I wasn’t sure if it would work, but I figured if Tabs won’t eat it, surely Ginger would, right? And it wouldn’t be wasted.
If there is one thing I will always remember and practise, it’s a rule laid down by my dragon-hearted grandmother: Do not waste food. Eat up every single grain.
I guess ancestral Chinese led an agrarian way of life where food is scarce and precious, so it is ingrained in their culture not to waste food (Sad to say, I still see wastage in restaurants these days. Well, never mind, as long as we don’t waste.)
Whoopee! Tabs ate, Tabs ate!! Phew….
But….she didn’t finish all of it. Okay, that’s how Tabs eats. She’s not the neatest eater. She never polishes the bowl, unlike some of our other cats.
Never mind, there’s always Ginger, right? He is a bowl polisher.
So I passed it along to Ginger and added his share of the AIM supplement, but alas…I dah kira salah!
Ginger doesn’t like raw food in the mornings. He prefers canned food, and will only eat raw food later in the day. Oh no….
As expected, Ginger only ate half of it.
How was I going to make him eat up the rest? Keep it in the fridge for later? Which self-respecting cat eats leftover food? They just don’t.
So I made a fresh bowl of Ginger’s favourite breakfast, Cindy’s canned Tender Chicken and added a bit of the AIM-laced supplement to it. Just a bit.
And by now, the Monsters had finished breakfast and was doing their morning Blue Zone exercise. Ginger was at Vincent’s table.
I approached slowly and coaxed Ginger…please, Ginger, please eat…a bit? Please…
This AIM food came all the way from Japan and it’s not available in Malaysia yet, I’m not going to waste even a drop of it.
Ginger decided he wouldn’t be fooled.
“Who asked you to give me raw food in the morning? You know I don’t eat it in the mornings. I only eat it in the evenings.”
Okay, sorry, sorry, Ginger. But do you think you could just make an exception for this morning, please?
“No.”
So what did I do next? I had no other choice but to force feed it to him little by little, with a lot of praise and coaxing.
Almost finished, but still some bits left. The bright brown parts is the AIM supplement.
Later, I mixed the leftover bits with Tabs’ favourite Cindy’s pureed tuna and made a silent wish….
Tabs ate!!
Call me OCD if you like. I am. This food is simply too precious to be wasted, even a tiniest bit.
I’ve kept whatever remaining bits in the fridge, I have a way to make Tabs eat it all up…but later.
Okay, acceptable. Done!
