Here are some details on Nomi’s surgery:
The diaphragm was torn in three places, so it was a very bad tear. There was adhesion of the liver to the right lung. The vet had to cut the sternum to fix this. In separating the organs, there was bleeding, as expected. Nomi needed emergency blood transfusion and this was not anticipated so the team had to give blood immediately and there was no time to cross-match the blood. Thankfully no incompatibility issue has arisen from this so far.
Due to the tear having happened two weeks ago, one lung had already collapsed, so Nomi was breathing only with one lung. Now, the collapsed lung has expanded back to 90%, so it looks good.
Nomi is awake from the anaesthesia but has not shown any interest in food yet.
She will be on oxygen for the next 24 hours and will be closely monitored for now.
We thank the vet and her team very much for the amazing surgery.
Thank you, everyone, for your kind wishes and donations for this surgery. Nomi would still need your best wishes for the next 24 hours, especially, and also going forward as recuperation would take time.
The estimated cost of the surgery was between RM2000 – RM3000, but now there would be the additional charges for the blood transfusion. What is important is that the surgery has been a success, and Nomi stands a good chance to lead a new life!
