Tabs And Riley

I somehow seldom write about Tabs and Riley…

Both are fine.

Riley still likes to graze throughout the day, but at least I can get her to eat a raw meal by herself every morning. I don’t need to force feed her twice a day anymore.

As for Tabs, she still wants variety. Tabs is a senior, so she gets to eat whatever she wants.

Tabs also has PCKD (polycystic chronic kidney disease) which is a genetic illness. She must have had it all her life without us knowing about it. Tabs is 13 years old now and she was only diagnosed late last year from a routine annual blood test. Before this, her condition did not show up in any of the annual blood tests. Tabs has been given the stem cell therapy as well, together with Ginger and Indy (he didn’t make it as he was already at Stage 4 – I still miss Indy so much).

Ginger went from Stage 2 back to Stage 1 and is not on any kidney supplements except for Kidney Support Gold.

Tabs has stayed in Stage 2 and that is not surprising because of the PKD so she is on 150ml subcut fluids 6 times a week (the vet said to take a break one day per week – a cheat day!) and all the supplements below:

The MicroChitosan is for her PKD while the Renal-Combi, Astro’s fish oil and Astro’s NC-Scrub and Kidney Support Gold is for the CKD. For Tabs, I don’t think the NC-Scrub makes much difference to her condition. So I might stop that after the jar is finished. She is also on the AIM supplement, but I’m already running out of it because it is only available in Japan.

I have nursed 5 geriatric cats with CKD thus far – Vincent, Pole, Bunny, Cleo and Indy. Every cat’s needs was different. Even the supplements that worked for each cat was different although the condition was the same – CKD (chronic kidney disease, it’s what every cat parent wishes will not happen to their elderly cats and yet it happens to commonly because most cats outlive their kidneys partly due to the lack of a thirst drive in them).

Ginger also has geriatric CKD, he is now 13 years old. Ginger is also FIV+. He is at Stage 1, most likely thanks to the stem cell therapy. But Ginger’s biggest problem now is obesity!!
